High energy music and bumping beats are signature sounds for Big Body Fiji and the Decent Militia collective. Every artist in the group has seen their stock rise significantly in 2016, but Big Body Fiji is hoping to make 2017 even better. After the recent success of Militia Muzik Vol. 1, Fiji is gearing up to drop a solo tape that is sure to get things going in the right direction for the new year. We’re excited we got the chance to ask Fiji about his fun music and future plans. Check out what he has to say below.

You only started rapping a little bit ago, but you’ve already managed to become one of the biggest rising names on the Chicago scene. What has that experience been like? What has helped you grow so quickly?
It’s been great man, a lot of people still shocked I started rapping since it was so random I guess. But I think interacting with the small fan base that I have here has helped a lot.

You always come through with some high energy verses. What is the process like when you get in the studio?
I really just smoke and hear and beat and get in there. I don’t over think things too much. The recording process is pretty fun for me.

A big part of Decent Militia’s success has been your strong sense of collaboration. How did Decent Militia link up originally? What are the plans for Decent Militia’s future?
These basically all my friends I came up with from different sides of the city and I just brought us all together to become a collective. We never thought it’d turn into all of this though. Jose Franco & Vela were the only artists out of our group then I made a song on accident and we all decided to rap.

Militia Muzik Vol. 1 just dropped, and it’s very dope. What was it like recording that? Are you planning on dropping a solo project at any point?
Appreciate that man, shit the recording process was great. We just wanted to set the pace for the rest of the year so we released a full body of work. My solo project is coming a lot sooner than you think. I just wanted a collective project out first.

What do you think about the rest of the Chicago scene? Who are some other artists people should pay attention to?
The city going crazy right now, as a fan of this shit before an artist, I’m excited. This year I’m excited about a couple artist coming up Izzihot, NinaTech etc.

Be on the lookout for Big Body Fiji’s solo project which sounds like it’s coming soon and be prepared for a big 2017 from the rising star.
