Sage, The 64th Wonder truly is a prolific figure in Chicago’s underground. We’ve been waiting in anticipation for God’s Hand and it’s full of that classic Sage vibe complete with dusty production and personal, lyrical verses. With 14 tracks on this one, there’s plenty of music to get lost in and this is a tape you can bump throughout the day like a soundtrack to life. While Sage doesn’t depart from his lane too much on this one, some of the production does have a Nujabes type feel to it, smoothing out some of the more gruff aspects of his style. Some of my personal favorites on God’s Hand are these more relaxed, atmospheric songs such as Shin Seji Den and Hokage. The eastern influence is undeniable throughout but Sage does an excellent job of using that influence and paying homage to it without bastardizing it. As usual, this is an overall complete and cohesive project from Sage and this underground legend continues to put out quality sounds. Listen below.
