It’s been a few years since the Bombay Boyz dropped a project, but they’re back with a very solid tape in Sapphire Theory. The six track project is full of old school, jazzy vibes and lyrical, personal content that sounds like a modern day update on that classic 90’s East Coast sound, making it clear the Bombay Boyz want to bring back that thoughtful and lyrical style. They do a good job of doing that without sounding stale, updating that style by making one of the main themes on Sapphire Theory a psychedelic perspective that reminds me a little bit of Flatbush Zombies’ content matter when they were first getting big. While all six tracks have their strong points, my personal favorites are the first song Thymble and Cold with SlumpGang777’s Orlando Coolridge. Both of these tracks have some great production and feature some of the strongest flows and best verses on the tape. Overall, this is an impressive mixtape after a three year hiatus and I’m looking forward to hearing more in the future. Listen to the whole thing below.
