Nique Robinson has been on my radar for a while but his most recent project, PAINT, is probably my favorite piece of music from him yet. Starting with a smooth, well-produced track in SAVIOR, Robinson begins the tape with a bang and shows off his vibrant flow and solid vocals. The jazzy, atmospheric beat adds to the late night vibe and flows nicely into BLACK, a powerful but somewhat relaxed song that reminded me of some Section.80 era Kendrick music and shows Robinson’s lyrical ability. Next up was FIRE, another solid track that highlights Robinson’s diverse songwriting ability and comes complete with one of my favorite hooks on the project, a catchy sample that adds a smooth layer to the track. The last track, VICE, rounds out the four track EP perfectly and comes in with a simple, calming beat and well written, effortless verses. Listen to PAINT in its entirety below.
