Travis Hendriiix, formerly known as TKCS, is on a path of reinvention and innovation. As he looks to re-brand himself, Hendriiix has been making deliberate and thought out moves while also releasing some pretty solid music. Even though he only has two songs under his belt, it’s clear he has a vision for his sound and style. We got the chance to ask him some questions about this new look, what to expect in the future, and some of his inspirations (they’re probably not who you think). Read our latest Windy City Sounds interview below and get in tune with Travis Hendriiix.

You have only recently started making music but already have some solid singles under your belt. What made you start making music?

Actually, that’s misinformation. I just started releasing music under this stage name as a re-branding campaign since I quit making music a couple years ago. I was in a nasty relationship that didn’t flow too well with what I was doing, and became stagnant. Plus I grew up a little more, and realized that the image I was portraying before wasn’t who I really am. So instead I decided to come back with a new approach, and better guidance from friends and family to really make something from this.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?

This is a cocky thing to say, but I inspire myself. It’s kind of a lame thing to be “jealous” or “wanting to be like this guy”, because they aren’t me. I inspire myself because my music is a reflection of me. So hearing my own story, I relate to it. It inspires me to want to make music again, and then the process repeats. Plus it helps when I’m playing my unreleased projects for friends and family and they really hype me up. That is what inspires me to keep pushing to the gold.

If you had to describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before, how would you describe it?

To describe my sound, really is a representation of me. That’s why I like to do these interviews because it allows someone to understand my concept before even listening to me. God created us in his image, and I created Travis Hendriiix in mine. So there’s nothing like it, which means I can’t describe it to other people. They personally might have their own opinions, because that’s what people do. They try to relate it to something they know. “Oh you sound like Durk.” Or “Oh you sound like Yeezy, or Wayne, or Wiz” or whatever. So yeah, I’ve heard comparisons but I’m not going to limit my talent to someone else’s career that isn’t mine.

Can we expect a project from you anytime soon?

I haven’t really talked much about one, but yes there is a project coming soon. And as a little sneak peek, it’s going to be multi-part series. Nothing more.

Who are some artists you dream of working with in the future?

I was actually just talking with my girl about who I want to work with before this. I have a single with Rocky Diamonds that will be coming soon for the masses. But to even further that, working with any Chicago legend is someone I want to start with. Kanye for real. Or even Lupe. Those would be dope. I want to capture the city, then go world wide.

Anything else you want to add?

Don’t sleep on me. I’m not very comfortable..
